GUYANA - A 25-year-old man lost his life last Sunday night after the car he was driving crashed into a parked truck at Yarrowkabra,
Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The dead man has been identified as Asgar Ramirez of Lot 82 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown. Reports are that the accident occurred at around 20:30hours.
Police in its report said that the accident involved a truck bearing registration number GAG 5478 and a motorcar with registration number PRR 7155. Investigations disclosed that Ramirez was traveling north along the western side of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the rear of the truck, which was parked on the western side of the road and facing north.
The parked truck, owned by Mohamed’s Excavating Service of Yarrowkabra, was driven and parked by Anthony Vriese, a 31-year-old resident from Madewini Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The truck had mechanical issues at around 16:30hours on the day of the accident and the matter was reported to the police who secured the area by placing reflective cones around the rear, sides and front of the truck. Vriese and other individuals were at the side of the truck, attempting to repair it when the incident occurred resulting in both vehicles being severely damaged. Ramirez sustained severe head injuries and other bodily injuries. He was removed from the car in an unconscious state by police officers and members of the public and was then transported to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, Vriese is in custody assisting with the investigation. (Kaieteur News)
