The employees from the Esther Stichting recently went on strike and will work until 3 p.m. be-cause they still haven't received retain allowances and because their employment papers still have not been processed.
The employees pointed out that management fails to communicate with them which is why problems cannot be discussed and solved. They explained that there are many problems at this retirement home because some spots do not have any lights while the ceiling is also about to collapse. The doors and toilets must also be replaced. One of the biggest problems is the lack of communication between the workers and the union and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing.
Meanwhile volunteers have showed up at the Esther Stichting to lend a helping hand during the strike. The workers have made it clear that they would intensify the strike, if no solution is presented. A relative of one of the residents is puzzled by the fact that the government still has not come up with a solution. “The employees often go on strike. What will happen to the residents? I have started looking for a room at another retirement home for my relative.”
