PARAMARIBO - At the end of the negotiations be-tween Israel and Hamas, which began on monday in Qatar, it will have to be decided that Hamas will give up its authoritarian rule over the Gaza Strip.
"Hamas cannot be accepted as the rulers of Gaza in the end. If Hamas is not willing to resign, we will not be able to complete the negotiations with success," Israeli Ambassador Itai Bardov says to Times of Suriname. "We are willing to let them go in peace. But because of radical ideas they can no longer be left in power in Gaza."
The Arab countries, including Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, are working on a solution that would mean that Hamas would lose control of Gaza. "Hamas has been radicalizing the people of Gaza for twenty years. Her indoctrination starts in school. Where children are taught about the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews. And if we want to break the cycle of violence, Hamas will have to be removed. How would Suriname feel if one of its neighbouring countries houses a terrorist organization that has dedicated to destruct Suriname? Who teaches his people that Surinamese are the descendants of monkeys, pigs and satan and therefore deserve to die? In addition, they fire missiles every day, killing many Surinamese. How would Suriname respond to this? I understand that this is a situation that is difficult for the average Surinamese to understand, because you have never been victims of this form of radicalism and hatred."
According to the Israeli ambassador, there is a fairly large consensus in many modern Arab states, the West and Israel, where in the second phase of negotiations must result in Hamas having to give up leadership of the Gaza Strip. "They came to power in 2007 through a bloody coup and since then no elections have been held in Gaza. They rule with an iron fist. And this must come to an end."
