PARAMARIBO – The Health Ministry recently made it clear that there is no shortage of HIV inhibitor drugs in Suriname and gave its assurance that the Bedrijf Geneesmiddelen Voorziening Suriname (BGVS) has enough medication in stock for the biggest group...
of HIV patients for an entire year. New supplies can therefore be delivered to pharmacies and hospitals nationwide.
The BGVS has also purchased additional supplies which arrived in Suriname last Saturday. The dis-tribution of the new supplies to the hospitals will commence this week. The liquid for this type of medication and the new combination therapy are currently not available, but the Health Ministry assured that it purchased a new supply and that the supplier was paid on April 3rd with funds from the Inter American Development Bank. The supplier is expected to make a delivery this week. The Health Ministry will determine how many inhibitor drugs are needed and which ones must be given priority. It will discuss this matter with the BGVS and the National Aids Program division.
