NICKERIE - Passengers from Suriname who wants to catch the ferry to cross the river with their vehicles in order to reach neighbouring Guyana recently expressed their discontent with the way things are going at the Canawaima Ferry Service (CFS). When they arrive in Southdrain and stand in line to wait their turn, ...
they are not sure if they will actually get a turn to get on the ferry. A furious passenger who wanted to cross the river told Times of Suriname that she waited in line since half past three in the morning but that she did not get a turn because the buses from Guyana that come from Paramaribo are given preference. Because of this the Surinamese citizens who wait in line for many hours do not get a turn. The angry passengers explained that there is a system in place that is aimed at giving each customer who stands in line a turn but that they are shocked to see that Guyanese buses are given the VIP treatment. They want the CFS to stick to a fair system and to treat all customers equally.
