The Health Ministry recently urged people not to allow others, namely quacks, to trick them into buying dangerous wonder drugs that have not been tested or approved.
‘Platta Poena oil’ and ‘Batty Gum oil’ are just some of the so-called wonder drugs that are currently being promoted even though they are not backed by scientific research. “They come with a lot of catchy names. People believe those things. But I think that we should let common sense prevail,” said Health Minister Amar Ramadin.
The Health minister made it clear that he does not oppose traditional medicine or homeopathic cures but that he doubts some of the products that are currently on the market. “Nature has so much to offer. But let us be honest and acknowledge that the names serve a commercial propose. It is in fact a capital offense,” said Minister Ramadhin as he responded to a question regarding the effect of Sodomy oil.
Minister Ramadhin warned that such products could not only be ineffective but that they could also have harmful effects. He is therefore in favor of stricter laws and clear labels so that consumers could know what it safe and what is not.
