Brunswijk criticizes VHP: “I am not content”

With only a few months to go until the general elections the General Liberation and Development Party   (ABOP) looks back at the collaboration with the VHP with much disappointment. The chairman of ABOP who is currently also the vice  president of the Republic of Suriname, Ronnie Brunswijk, claimed that his political party faced many restrictions within the government these past four years. He also claimed that the tasks of the vice president are being undermined by the  president.

“I am not content with the way we are being treated,” said Vice President Brunswijk who made it clear that the duties of the VP are mentioned in the constitution.  “But the  president does everything. Just look at Staatsolie. Staatsolie falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources but the minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Collaboration

has the lead there. The minister of Natural Resources is not even involved. Those are the things that are happening and I have said it clearly. I have said that we are not given the opportunity to work,” said VP Brunswijk who added that the  ABOP would seriously evaluate the joint venture with the VHP.
