“Burglaries at Sozavo offices cause for concern”
“The frequent burglaries at the regional offices of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) are cause for concern”, said Mayra Finsie-Sedoc, union chairwoman of the union at Sozavo. She pointed out that many things are stolen and that reports indicate that there are no security guards. The union chairwoman explained that the union had recommended hiring a private security company to guard the regional offices of the Ministry of Social Affairs. Last week there were two break-ins in the AOV building that is located at the corner of the Gemenelandsweg and the Johan Adolf Pengelstraat. A coworker told Times of Suriname that there have been many break-ins and that the perpetrators are looking for money and other valuable things. He suspects that the same gang keeps targeting the building and made it clear that he hopes that the police will catch the perpetrators soon. The union chairwoman and the coworker explained that the customer service does not go smoothly because many things such as laptops, desktops, office supplies and other things are not at the disposal of the workers as a result of the burglaries. The employees who were stationed at the office located along Waterkant but who were moved to a building in the Wulfingstraat are expected to return to their old workstation which has been renovated.
