The number of COVID-19 cases in Suriname is evidently on the rise. But the people are still not interested in getting vaccinated against this contagious lung virus. This year only 8 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Health Minister Amar Ramadhin on Tuesday confirmed that COVID-19 cases have been detected again. For a long time there were only a small number of COVID-19 infections. Health Minister Ramadhin issued a warning regarding the remergence of the novel coronovirus. “COVID-19 must not be underestimated. I urge everyone to stick to the preventative measures at all times,” said the minister who added that sustainable protection against COVID-19 is possible through vaccination. Minister Ramadhin expressed grave concern over the fact that people are reluctant to get vaccinated. “I am extremely, extremely concerned when I look at the number of COVID-19 cases. But I received a report from the Public Health Bureau (BOG) which indicated that only 8 people in Suriname were vaccinated after the batch of Pfizer vaccines had arrived,” said the minister who added that people do not answer the call to get vaccinated.
