DA’91  reports parliament to OAS for ignoring verdict

DA’91 has sent another letter to the Organization of American States  (OAS) to express its concern regarding the attempt of parliament to determine a deposit aimed at excluding multiple political parties from the upcoming elections. It explained that parliament clearly wants to ignore and violate the verdict that the Constitutional Court had reached on this issue in August. Parliament referred to inflation figures to justify a nearly 700% hike of the deposit.

DA’91 strongly disapproved of the new bill that parliament wants to pass to anchor the new deposit in the Election Act. After parliament had attempted to raise the deposit with one thousand percent,

DA’91 has regularly kept the OAS informed of the latest developments. DA’91 has also asked the OAS for advice on how to handle parliament’s anti democratic actions. It made it clear that it wants the region and the entire world to know what is going on in Suriname and how the current legislators and the current government wants to abuse their power to exclude  other political parties and determine the voice of the people on May 25th, 2024.  DA’91 does not stand alone in this fight against injustice as the DNL, FS22, DOE and  597 also want to use all the legal tools at their disposal to fight against the attempts of parliament to choose for the voters.
