Defense Ministry launches investigation over claims of extortion

PARAMARIBO – The Defense Ministry  recently launched an investigation into the claims that members of the Military Police who are part of Immigration Service at the Johan Adolf Pengel (JAP) International Airport, extorted visitors from India. 

 

Defense Minister Krishna Mathoera has also instructed the Office of the Inspector a General of the Armed Forces to launch an investigation. Several days ago Navankur Chaudhary, a famous YouTuber who travels around the world, posted a video where he made some serious accusations against the MP and where he also placed Suriname in a negative spotlight. The preliminary investigation has led to the conclusion that the information that was shared by Navankur is not based on the truth. The Office of the Inspector General will resume the investigation. The Defense Ministry seems it regrettable that people reposted the information from the travel vlog of Navankur without first asking the Military Police to comment on the accusations.
