Finance minister: “Parliament will be informed”

Finance and Planning Minister Stanley Raghoebarsing recently made it clear that the government has not given itself a 50% purchasing power boost.  He responded to the rumors that have been going around for the past couple of weeks. The issue was recently discussed in parliament. Minister Raghoebarsing assured that he has neither received nor approved such a decision. “If the president, vice president and ministers will receive additional finances, there will be no reason to keep it a secret,” said Minister Raghoebarsing who added that parliament will be informed first. The Finance minister made these statements in response to accusations made by MP Stephen Tsang (NDP). The member of the opposition claimed that ministers would receive an additional purchasing power boost of SRD 19,000 each month. He made it clear that it was unacceptable for ministers to receive that much while the most vulnerable groups only get a meager SRD 1,800.
