Geerlings-Simons: “You will work hard”
PARAMARIBO – Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, the newly elected chairperson of the National Democratic Party (NDP), is sparing no efforts to regain the trust of the supporters of her party. She has already visited several residential neighborhoods to haul in the voters. Geerlings-Simons repeatedly made it clear that “you must not expect miracles, if the NDP wins the elections.” She also made it clear that the growth of the country is not only in the hands of the government. “You will work hard,” said Geerlings-Simons who is officially the first woman to chair the purple party. According to Geerlings-Simons, staying on the sidelines is not an option. “If you think that you will sleep in your hammock, you must not vote for us.” Geerlings-Simons acknowledged that previous governments failed to tackle corruption and that they also failed to stick to transparency. She is determined to opt for a new course and to tackle these problems. “If you steal, I will not protect you,” said Geerlings-Simons who announced that she would also opt for simplicity. She criticized the current administration for having many cars follow the car of the president and that of the vice president.
