Human trafficker deported
PARAMARIBO – A 41-year-old man who has served two third of his prison sentence, was deported out of Suriname last Sunday.
S.D. was arrested on May 21st, 2023 after three victims had accused him of human trafficking. The three victims went to the consulate of their country of origin, after they had managed to escape. A representative from the consulate then brought them to the Trafficking In Persons (TIP) division of the police. The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to 2 years in prison. He was recently granted parole. Last year the victims were lured to Suriname under false pretences . After they had arrived in Suriname, they were forced to work as commercial sex workers. The women who are from the same country as S.D. and his partner, were told that they would work as bar tenders but when they arrived in Suriname, they realized that S.D. did not own a bar. They told the police that they were not allowed to leave the house of S D. without an escort and that they had to pay off a huge debt. S.D. had also taken their passports.
