“The number of grass fires has increased in February,” Olton Pinas, spokesman of the Fire Department Suriname (KBS), told Times of Suriname. Statistics indicate that there were 24 grass fires in January while 50 have already been reported in February. Fire officials expressed their concern regarding this increase.
