Lawyers meet with AG to discuss violation of Bouterse’s privacy

Attorney-at-law  Murwin Dubois and his colleague  Milton Castelen on Thursday had a meeting with Attorney General  Garcia Paragsingh to discuss the violation of the privacy of the late Desi Bouterse. The Public Prosecutor’s Office evidently published the autopsy report. Dubois told Times of Suriname that “there will most likely be a follow up meeting because the attorney general still has to give an official response.”

“We are keeping the channels open a little longer to address the issue. The privacy of Bouterse and his relatives was violated,” said Dubois.  The lawyers accepted the invitation for a meeting with the attorney general. The Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the autopsy report indicates that Bouterse passed away on December 23rd or 24th. It also mentioned the cause of death namely complications as a result of liver failure. The Public Prosecutor’s Office also revealed that the liver fibrosis was caused by chronic alcohol consumption. In December 2023 Bouterse was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his involvement in the murder of 15 people in Fort Zeelandia in December 1982. He never spent a single day behind bars.
