PARAMARIBO – A man on Wednesday chopped ano­ther man to death with a machete in the Willem Campagnestraat. Shortly after his arrest the perpetrator claimed that he was being molested by the vic­tim. Sources told Times of Suriname that the perpetrator became furious when the victim molested him and that he grabbed an axe before attacking the victim.

The perpetrator evidently chop­ped the back of the victim’s head. The police seized his bag which contained the murder weapon, a knife, a mobile phone and SRD 20. After the police had arrived on the scene, they sum­moned an ambulance but when the pa­ramedics arrived, they concluded that the victim was no longer alive. The in­vestigation is ongoing.
