Market vendors complain about financial losses
Vendors who sell their products at the public market in the Nickerie District recently complained about the fact that nobody informed them that the road would be closed for an entire week because of the festivities aimed at celebrating the 145th anniversary of Nieuw Nickerie. They explained that they have noticed a drastic drop in sales because people can’t reach the public market now that the road is closed. The market vendors pointed out that people do not want to walk all the way to the market so they simply buy vegetables and other things from the street vendors. They also complained that tents were erected in the parking lot without their consent. The market vendors blame the management team of the public market for failing to inform them of the festivities. Every day the market vendors have to return home with all of their products. “We are suffering huge financial losses,” said the market vendors who added that fruits and vegetables can’t be preserved for a long time.
