The Minister of Environmental Planning, Land and Forest Management (RGB), Steven Relyveld, recently announced that he would carry out the verdict against the State regarding negligence in the granting of land allocation papers to 66 people in the Saramacca District. The verdict was reached in July 2014 and in the meantime the penalty has already reached SRD 6 million. Minister Relyveld pointed out that he would “obey the judge’s order” but he also distanced himself from the accusations by saying that he is not to blame for the high penalty. The verdict was served at the Office of the Attorney General but Minister Relyveld explained that he would have also liked the legal document to be delivered at the RGB Ministry so that the verdict could have been carried out at once.
