More than 2,000 people injured in traffic accidents
PARAMARIBO – “2,033 people were evidently injured in traffic accidents in the first 8 months of 2024,” said Helmut Gezius, chairman of the Traffic Volunteers’ Force told Times of Suriname. The statistics indicate that 1,455 men (72%) and 578 women (28%) sustained injuries. 632 of these people were passengers in a car, 11 were on an ebike, 195 were pedestrians, 81 were cyclists and 1,065 were riding a motorbike.
49 victims were in the unspecified category. Traffic Law Expert Gloria Stirling made it clear that people must urgently change their behaviour in traffic for the better. She pointed out that many drivers and riders do not seem concerned about the serious consequences of traffic accidents.
