Murderer sentenced to 60 years in prison

ST KITTS – Twenty-eight-year-old Shaquille Liburd of Conaree Village, St Kitts, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of Constance Thompson.  The sentencing, which took place on August 2, 2024, marks the culmination of a case that has gripped the nation since the crime was committed over five years ago.

Liburd was found guilty of Thompson’s murder on December 22, 2023, following a trial in the High Court. The crime, which occurred on April 29, 2019, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a lengthy investigation.

Justice Iain Morley KC, who presided over the case, handed down the substantial sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crime. The court has stipulated that time spent on remand will be counted towards Liburd’s sentence. Additionally, he will be eligible for a one-third remission of his sentence for good behaviour.

In a separate case, 31-year-old Shirbon Eddy of Taylor’s was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Eddy, who was initially charged on January 31, 2022, pleaded guilty to the charge on May 24, 2024.
