Rice farmers press charges against Agriculture Ministry
PARAMARIBO – Rice farmers recently pressed charges against the Ministry of Agriculture, Stockbreeding and Fisheries (LVV) because of the fertilizer fraud scheme. They asked the police to launch a thorough investigation in order to find out who has received fertilizer free of charge. Some of the rice farmers did not receive any fertilizer even though their names are on the list. The farmers and the president agreed that farmers who received fertilizer would not receive any financial compensation. Many farmers are puzzled as they claim that the Ministry of Agriculture supported these fraudulent acts. They have repeatedly asked the Ministry of Agriculture to see the list but they still have not received it. After the president had intervened, the farmers were given the list.
