Two defendants sentenced to 15 years in prison
PARAMARIBO – Romeo M. and Denroy G. on Tuesday we’re each sentenced to 15 years in prison after they were found guilty of robbing and killing female retailer in her store located in the PT Paltan Tewarieweg. Judge Duncan Nanhoe pointed out that the woman was robbed of several packs of cigarettes before being gunned down.
The perpetrators decided to rob the store because they did not have any money. Denroy G. planned the robbery with three other men but was not present when the armed robbery was carried out. He had, however, given his accomplices the gun that was used to gun down the female retailer. After the deadly armed robbery one of the accomplices gave the gun back to Denroy G. The judge pointed out that Romeo M. was the one who had selected the target.
Romeo M. had selected the store because it did not have any security cameras. He drove three accomplices to the store and stayed outside with one of them while the two others went inside. The accomplices told the court that Romeo M. had received several packs of cigarettes for his role in the deadly armed robbery. After the retailer had been shot, she tried to chase the robbers but collapsed. The judge also pointed out that Romeo M. had told several stories in court and that he had even claimed that he himself was also robbed by the men.
Romeo M. also told the court that he worked as a taxi driver when he drove the robbers to the store. Defense attorneys Chandra Algoe and Derrick Veira are reportedly thinking about lodging an appeal on behalf of Romeo M…[+]
