Unions slam Natural Resources minister over statement

The C-47 labor federation and other unions which issued a partial strike because of the electricity price hike recently slammed the minister of Natural Resources over his statements regarding the price of electricity. The minister of Natural Resources David Abiamofo recently claimed that it would be impossible to lower the prices of electricity. He explained that it would only be possible if the prices of foreign currencies dropped or the world market price for fuel needed for generating thermal energy would drop. The unions deem the minister’s statement unacceptable because it does not contribute to the efforts aimed at finding a solution. They have therefore decided to negotiate directly with the president. “We deem the statement irresponsible because there are in fact possibilities to lower the electricity prices. Together with the technical experts of the government we developed a proposal aimed at adjusting the electricity prices. We will present this proposal to the president this week,” said Dayanand Dwarka from C-47. The union officials pointed out that several unions recently decided to end the partial strike this week but that other unions will keep up the campaign until a solution has been found.
