Wanica Hospital has collective debt of SRD 14 million

PARAMARIBO – The Regional Hospital Wanica (RZW) still has not paid its bills from the COVID-19 period. The hospital reportedly has to pay a collective debt of SRD 14 million. Health Minister Amar Ramadhin explained that steps have already been taken to pay the bills but that things are progressing at a slow pace.

 “I do not want to leave huge debts behind for my successor,” said Minister Ramadhin. It is unclear how the debts of the hospital that is run by the state will be paid off. The hospital also has to take care of other obligations namely the salaries of its workers. “We can’t perform miracles stat. Everything must be carefully planned and carried out and we must always take the current budget, the current size of the work force, the logistics and other internal challenges into account,” said Minister Ramadhin.
