Woman asks court to release defendant
PARAMARIBO – S.G. on Monday asked the court to release her boyfriend, FB, who is currently on trial for assaulting her. The victim claimed that she wants to end the relationship and that the defendant is no longer welcome in her house. S.G. and F.B. have been in a rocky relationship for the past 6 years.
Last year F.B. who has evidently made a habit out of beating his girlfriend was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend and was spent 6 months behind bars. When he was released from prison a few months ago S.G. was waiting for him outside the prison gates and took him home with her. F.B. who had found a new job needed a place a stay so she gave him a second chance. F.B. was also sentenced to 2 years’ probation but soon after his release he was back at his old ways and once again started using his girlfriend as a punching bag. S.G. who had decided to press charges told the court that “my boyfriend is a nice guy who becomes violent after he has had too much too drink.” The defendant denied the charges and claimed that his girlfriend often falls and injured herself whenever she gets dizzy. He claimed that she fell out of a hammock and a car and that she once fell while she was standing. Despite the victim’s request, the judge decided to keep the defendant locked up. The defendant is scheduled to return to court on August 19th. The judge is expected to announce the verdict that day…[+]
