Worker fabricates robbery after stealing employer’s money

Andy K. made up a story about being robbed at his workplace after he had stolen € 6,250 and SRD 53,000 from his employer. His employer had given him the money to buy spare parts for an excavator. Andy K. claimed that he had put the money in his car and that somebody had stolen it after having smashed one of the car windows with a machete. Investigators found out that the suspect had smashed the window himself. The suspect’s wife claimed that she did not know anything about the stolen money. Andy K. who eventually confessed to having stolen the money also stole SRD 94,000 from another person. The judge sentenced him to 1 year in prison, 2 years’ probation and also ordered him to pay the stolen money back within a year.
