WVOS concerned about armed robberies
PARAMARIBO – Gretl Wolfram, chairwoman of the Retailers’ and Entrepreneurs’ Association in Suriname (WVOS), expressed grave concern about the fact that retailers, entrepreneurs and others are being robbed. She told Times of Suriname that the WVOS and other organizations have already sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice and Police to ask for the issue be addressed. “As Surinamese citizens we have the right to feel safe. It is the government’s duty to make us feel safe,” said Wolfram who added that the association has presented several proposals aimed at maintaining law and order. The WVOS wants to provide laptops to the police so that the police officers can file the report on it when they visit the robbery victims at their store or home. Another proposal is aimed at establishing mobile police checkpoints at strategic locations so that the police could become more visible. “When the police become visible, the changes of a robbery being committed will become small.” The WVOS is willing to help the police to establish the mobile checkpoints…[+]
