GUAYANA - A 59-year-old man was chopped in the palm of his left hand, then thrown into a trench by his neighbour during an argument at La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
The injured man has been identified as Nandkishore Persaud, a father of two. The incident occurred between 14:30 and 15:00hrs last Sunday. A relative of the victim explained that he is well-known in the area and it is common for him to pass by his neighbor’s house on his way to the shop.
“Maybe some years back they had some story, so every day he passing to go to shop she cursing at him, cursing at him, but he doesn’t take her on, he drinks the rum, but she drinks it more,” the relative related. On the day of the incident, Persaud was at his neighbor’s house when the woman from the neighboring property began shouting insults at him over the fence. “So, the neighbour sent him home, so he then went home (he lives next door) so he go and sit down on the neighbour fridge outside and she cursing so he probably answered her and she ran out and she chuck him, so when she chuck him, he chucked her back.”
The relative claimed that the suspect then armed herself with a cutlass and fired a chop at Persaud in his left palm. The relative told Kaieteur News: “So now when she chopped him, he held unto the cutlass, the blade he held unto to it, so she can’t chop him again and she pushed him overboard with the cutlass and every other thing.” Persaud was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he received six stitches on his hand, and was later sent home. The matter was reported to the Wales Police Station. Searches are ongoing for the suspect. (Kaieteur News)
